With the prevalence of storm activity and the continuation of hurricane season, Ascension Public Schools is taking action to protect students from dangerous weather. This week, Ascension installed seven lightning detection units at its high school practice and game facilities, as well as equipped middle and high school key staff with a sophisticated weather app to protect students and the community during outdoor activities.

Today, the Louisiana Department of Education released statewide data showing growth among students in ELA and math. Ascension Public Schools was named an "Outstanding School System" in many categories including overall growth, as well as academic growth in the categories of African American students, economically disadvantaged students and students with disabilities.

The Speech Language Department of Ascension Public Schools received the Louisiana Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s (LSHA) “Public School Program of the Year” Award for 2019.

Ascension Public Schools teacher Becky Fritchie won the prestigious Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Educator of the Year Award for its Southwest Region, naming her as one of the top eight aerospace educators in the country. Fritchie, who teaches fifth grade science at Spanish Lake Primary, won the top educator award out of the following states: Arkansas, Arizona, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

The Jamborees will take place for all four high schools on the following days: Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019: Dutchtown High School visits Denham Springs High School Friday, Aug. 30, 2019: Donaldsonville High School plays McMain High School at St. James East Ascension High School visits East Jefferson High School St. Amant High School hosts Hammond High School



Ascension Public Schools offered Computer Applications, First Responder/EMR (Emergency Medical Responder), and NCCER Pipefitting courses to career and technical education students from across the district this June and July as part of the Jump Start Summers Program funded by the Louisiana Department of Education Supplemental Course Allocation (SCA).

Ascension Public Schools is hiring maintenance workers, bus drivers, child nutrition staff and custodians and will hold a Support Workers Job Fair on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Gonzales Civic Center. The event is open to the public and attendees are encouraged to bring copies of resumes, licenses and job-related certificates.
