Ascension Parish School Board Honors 2015-16 Teachers and Principals of the Year

2015-16 TEACHERS OF THE YEAR

Gonzales, La. The 2015-16 Teachers of the Year and Principals of the Year were honored by the Ascension Parish School Board at its Tuesday night meeting.  Awards were given to one teacher from each school plus one teacher and one principal in each division: primary school, middle school, and high school. 

"It is a privilege to recognize the outstanding teachers and principals in Ascension Parish. This group of educators were selected by their peers for making a difference in the lives of students every single day. Their commitment to excellence in our schools drives the success of our district," said Ascension Public Schools Superintendent David Alexander.

  • Dutchtown Middle student Hiba Hasan is the 2016 Louisiana Middle School Student of the Year
  • Spanish Lake Primary Principal Britton Colon was a semifinalist for 2017 Louisiana Principal of the Year
  • Dutchtown High teacher Brenden Simoneaux won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
  • Ascension Public Schools earned the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fourth consecutive year. Ascension is one of only two school districts in Louisiana to achieve this honor.
