Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are closing out an unprecedented first semester, and despite obstacles from the Flood of 2016, we are very proud of the progress students have made. We are grateful to all #AscensionStrong staff, School Board Members, and our community for continuing to make education a priority in the lives of children.
Congratulations to our students, teachers and all employees for raising our district performance score by two points and claiming, yet again, an "A" rating. Several of our schools experienced academic growth and earned higher letter grades this year, and we had particular success at all four high schools. Specifically, we saw growth in the ACT index and continued growth in graduation rates. This is a credit not only to our high schools, but also indicates the great job our primary and middle schools are doing in preparing students for the last leg of their K-12 journey to graduation.

Notwithstanding these achievements, we recognize the continued attention we must give to our mission of Every Child Successful in an Ever-Changing World. Until every child is proficient, we will not be satisfied.

Recovering from the Historic Flood of 2016 continues to be a challenge for our school district, as well as many of our citizens. The courage and determination our community has demonstrated has united us all to protect many priorities, one of which includes the education of our children.

As stated in my October message, at this time we are on schedule to get our five displaced schools back together on single sites by Feb. 3, 2017. When we return from the holidays, parents of displaced students should expect communication from your school principal with details about transitioning to temporary campuses.

This next step is better than the host sites and platooning, but it is not yet our final goal of returning to our permanent buildings. As reconstruction of our flooded facilities will take us into the 2017-18 Academic Year, detailed timelines will be released as soon as we have them.

This time of year provides us an opportunity to take pause, be thankful and even share gifts. Ascension Public Schools and staff thank you for entrusting us to serve your children's educational needs and for giving us the gift of sharing in their successes. Please take a moment to click on a special video message below.

We wish for you that this holiday time brings peace and joyful moments, and that 2017 is a year of hope and prosperity!
