Gonzales, La. – The 2017 Support Employees of the Year were recognized by the Ascension Parish School Board at its May 16 meeting. Awards were given to one support employee from each school plus one outstanding employee in each division: primary/elementary school, middle school and high school.

"Our schools could not run effectively without the hard work and dedication of our support employees. We appreciate what they do every single day for our students," said Ascension Public Schools Assistant Superintendent A. Denise Graves.

"To put some of this work into perspective, understand that we have about 200 buses transporting around 18,000 kids to and from school safely every day; we make over 18,000 meals each day; we have hundreds of thousands of square feet of facilities to maintain; and our paraprofessionals, secretaries and librarian's aides support more than 22,000 students. Our support staff does a great job, and we thank you for what you do," said Ascension Parish School Board Member Troy Gautreau.
