Mia Edwards Named Director of Secondary Schools
Ascension Public Schools announces the appointment of Mia Edwards as the new Director of Secondary Schools. Edwards replaces Lisa Bacala, who recently retired.

"We are delighted that Mia wants to take this next step in her career and serve our high school principals," said Superintendent David Alexander. "I know she is going to do a great job."

Born and raised in Donaldsonville, Edwards has worked in education for 29 years.

She began her career at Donaldsonville High School and served as a classroom teacher for 15 years at various schools including Lowery Middle, Galvez Middle and Lake Elementary. She served two years as the coordinator of a LaSIP grant, which was a partnership between Ascension and LSU. Edwards returned to the district as an instructional coach for several schools and served as a coordinator of staff development for the district.

For 10 years, she served as a campus administrator at St. Amant High School: four years as an assistant principal and six years as principal. Earlier this year, she was a 2018 Semifinalist for Louisiana Principal of the Year.

"Thank you for placing your trust and confidence in my ability to serve the high schools," said Edwards. "I am really excited about this opportunity to work with our communities and commit to serving all the high schools in this district with the passion I have served St. Amant High School."

Edwards earned a bachelor's degree in business education and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Nicholls State University. She also earned a specialist degree in science from Louisiana State University.
