We are pleased and grateful to our teachers, staff and the community for making today’s reopening of school for the entire district a general success. It was gratifying to see many warm smiles from parents and students alike.
As anticipated, we recognized and addressed some logistic issues today and are working on solutions to make tomorrow even better. Below are important updates. Please pay particular attention to changes in our school calendar for the months of September and October. While there will be no changes to holidays, we are cancelling all early releases and professional preparation days.
We encourage everyone to stay attentive to messages from their school, and periodically check the district website, www.apsb.org.
Relative to our current transportation routes and times, we recognize the need to operate more efficiently so that our pickups and drop-offs are consistent and timely. Very similarly to the start of a new school year, we will take a 2-3 day assessment to allow for our routines to become as efficient as possible before trying to implement any adjustments. Please continue to be patient with us during this process.
UPGRADES TO GROUNDS AT FORMER RPCC CAMPUS
As we continue to adjust the former River Parishes Community College campus to meet the needs of a primary school, our maintenance and ground crews are implementing upgrades such as installing fencing, covered walkways and signage.
CANCELLING ALL DISTRICT & SCHOOL EARLY RELEASES FOR SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER
Effective immediately, all professional preparation days and early releases for the schools and district are cancelled for the months of September and October. This means, the previously scheduled Professional Preparation Day on Sept. 9, 2016, will now be a regular school day.
At this point we are not cancelling any holidays and do not plan to do so unless it becomes a mandate from the state department of education. Please note, a decision on early releases for November and December are pending, and a decision will be made in early October.
The Ascension Public Schools Temporary Education Plan for Impacted Schools is available online. This plan details how students at the schools currently under remediation for flood waters will be able continue their education at alternate locations.
