LOW IMPACTS PREDICTED FROM TROPICAL STORM GORDON;
NO SCHOOL CLOSURES ANTICIPATED FOR WED., SEPT. 5
This morning, Ascension Public Schools met with local emergency officials for the latest weather briefings regarding Tropical Storm Gordon. At this time, the National Weather Service is predicting a very low risk of rain and high winds in our area – nothing that indicates a risk to normal operations on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018.
However, we will continue to monitor the path of the storm and remain in close consultation with emergency officials in order to be prepared to make a decision to close, if necessary. We encourage our families to monitor our website, www.apsb.org, for official decisions that will also be communicated via School Messenger.
Update: 7:00 p.m., Sept. 3, 2018
Ascension Public Schools is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Gordon, which is predicted to make landfall to the east of Louisiana early Wednesday morning. As impacts to our area are not expected until Tuesday evening, all schools and offices will remain open Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018. Out of an abundance of caution, all after-school and evening activities will be cancelled including the Ascension Parish School Board meeting. This decision was made in consultation with emergency management officials.
We will watch the progression of the storm overnight and wait to make a decision regarding Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018. Please continue to monitor our website, www.apsb.org, for official decisions regarding school and office closures.
