Board Changing to Spring Recognitions of Teachers and Principals of the Year
Starting this March, the Ascension Parish School Board (APSB) will hold official recognitions of annual teachers and principals of the year in the spring instead of the fall.

Because of the Louisiana Department of Education’s (LDOE) timeline for selecting the state teachers and principals of the year, APSB has historically honored its teachers and principals the year following their selection by the schools. That means that the school selections are made in the spring, the state selections are made in the spring and summer, and the APSB recognitions were held the following fall and spring. For example, the 2016-17 district honorees are considered the 2018 state honorees.

This overlap in our recognitions and the new selections has caused confusion. To remedy this, APSB is changing recognitions of teachers and principals of the year in the spring in which they are selected by their schools. If one of our honorees advances in the state process over the summer, APSB will have a special recognition for that teacher and/or principal the following fall.

In order to make this change, APSB will hold a special recognition for the 2016-17 teachers and principals of the year at the Mar. 21, 2017, school board meeting at Prairieville Middle School.
