Shelter in Place Lifted; Donaldsonville Primary Dismissing Early
The Shelter in Place has been lifted for Donaldsonville Primary, Ascension Head Start and Central Office in Donaldsonville.
Emergency officials determined the source of a chemical smell was a herbicide sprayed in the sugar cane field by Donaldsonville Primary, which was dispersed by the wind. The spraying was stopped and officials have declared the area safe.
Donaldsonville Primary will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. today, and Ascension Head Start will continue its normal release times.
At this time, no students have developed symptoms, but out of an abundance of caution, we will have every child at Donaldsonville Primary checked by medical personnel before being released. Furthermore, we will send an information sheet home with students about the chemicals that were used so that parents can watch for any potential symptoms.
