Dear Parents and Guardians,

There are several important things taking place this Spring that I would like to bring to your attention.

$100 MILLION CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN NEARING COMPLETION
In 2009, Ascension Parish voters approved the extension of a 15.08 millage rate to expand and improve some of the parish's oldest school facilities. The capital improvements were made with NO increase in the amount taxpayers paid each year. Six years later, the investment is making a positive difference.

GROWING AT THE PACE OF EXCELLENCE
Source: WAFBWith the 2009 bond projects coming to a close, it is now time to address the pressing needs of overcrowding at seven of our schools. On April 9, 2016, we will ask voters to extend the existing 15.08 millage to fund the construction of four new schools, campus security projects, and extensive renovations and additions, among other projects.

This is NOT a new tax or tax increase. It is an existing millage that has funded construction projects at our schools for over 30 years. Please click on the photo to view a recent news story or visit www.apsb.org/2016bond for the full project list and additional information.

INTERNET SAFETY & CYBER BULLYING AWARENESS
Ascension Public Schools has partnered with Innocent Eyes, a non-profit organization, to provide Internet safety and cyber bullying awareness to all middle and high school students. In addition to presentations at the schools, evening presentations for parents and the public are taking place at our high schools.

The next two parent meetings are at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1 at St. Amant High School and at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25 at Dutchtown High School. Click here for more information about this initiative and a detailed schedule. I strongly encourage you to attend one of these sessions to stay up-to-date on the ways to help protect your child from online predators.

PARENT/GUARDIAN SURVEY
Ascension Public Schools is engaged in an ongoing continuous improvement process, of which all stakeholders are an integral part. We are using the AdvancED Parent Survey as a means to elicit your opinions to help target areas for the school system to improve and areas of strength we will strive to reinforce.

As these surveys are school-specific, please be on the lookout for information from your child's school principal about how to complete the survey. We value your opinion and ask that you participate in this important process.

EVERY CHILD SUCCESSFUL IN AN EVER-CHANGING WORLD
As you know, in Ascension Parish our team works to ensure that every child is successful in our ever-changing world. Thank you for supporting initiatives designed to assure that our children advance their learning in improved facilities and in safe environments. We look forward to your voting on April 9th and your awareness of issues associated with online safety.

Sincerely,

Patrice Pujol, Ed.D.
Superintendent
