Update on Flood Recovery

Aug. 25, 2017

Dear Galvez Primary, Galvez Middle, Lake Elementary & St. Amant High Families,

The purpose of this message is to provide you with an update on our temporary campuses and provide information about permanent restoration of schools. We are grateful for your continued patience and determination in helping us maintain our goal of providing excellent educational opportunities for students, even throughout these inconveniences.

Work to ventilate buildings and the targeted removal of insulation at Lake Elementary has been our focus this week. These actions made significant differences in reducing and, in some areas, eliminating the presence of ammonia as measured by our engineering consultant. These same measures are now taking place at our other campuses with more work crews arriving this weekend. Weather permitting, we hope to finish these mitigation efforts in the very near future. In the meantime, we continue to urge our students to notify a teacher or staff member if they experience any discomfort.

As you know, restoration of St. Amant Primary and St. Amant Middle was completed earlier this month. The Ascension Parish School Board will have the opportunity to approve the apparent low bids for construction at Lake Elementary in September, Galvez Middle and Galvez Primary in October, and St. Amant High in November. The goal is to move back into Lake, Galvez Middle and Galvez Primary for the start of the 2018-19 school year. Due to the size and scope of work at St. Amant High, our goal is to complete that restoration by December 2018.
